Young students who are socially and emotionally sound are good listeners and follow directions well.  They are generally skilled communicators for their age, participate in class regularly, and are able to express their feelings and wishes clearly.

These children are generally positive people who maintain close relationships with friends.  They care and show empathy towards others. 

How Can Teachers Assist Students in Becoming Healthy Social and Emotional Learners?

Build trusting relationships with students, show warmth and affection, listen with intention, and purposefully teach social and emotional skills.
